This one is only available through July and I found it lower by one penny. This hotel is 5 minutes from Casino Morongo and a 15-minute freeway drive to Palm Springs and all the shops and casinos there. It gets hot there this time of year, so be prepared!

Many competing websites have the lower rates, some of which are the "Quicksaver" non-refundable type. However, it appears the WR website has normal rates which are higher.

It was point out to me by reader, James, that http://www.hotel-rates.com/ has the same lower rate, but without a non-refundable component to it. Therefore, this site is your best bet and you'll want to use it for your claim.
This property offers a free continental breakfast, has satellite TV, and shuttle service to the airport. (fee) There are many restaurants within close proximity.

I really hope someone gets this! It is for New Year's Eve, Dec. 31st. It is also available for Dec. 30th. You could, if you wish, book 2 consecutive nights here with a friend as the second address. This property is on the north end of the strip closer to downtown Freemont Street.

Skirting the Wyndham BRG Prepaid Requirement: A Reader Shares Her Thoughts

Reader Misty shared the following information with me, which I'd never have thought of. Now, this method may not be for everyone (probably not even for myself) but it's an interesting (and some - probably even most - may find it morally wrong) idea if nothing else.

Basically, you book a Wyndham Hotel Webrate using a Mastercard or Visa Gift Card that has only a couple of cents left on it. Misty reports that Wyndham does not charge the full amount immediately, and only checks if the card is valid.

Then, after securing the reservation, you'd file a claim for a free room. If you get it, good, but if not, you can basically let the reservation slide. Tell the hotel you're not coming, and if they try to charge the card, they'll be denied.

This method is clearly against countless terms and conditions, and of course we will not condone ripping off hotels intentionally, but this evidently does happen and is a preferred method for getting Wyndham BRGs approved. We'll leave this up to your own moral judgment as to whether this is wrong for you to do.

Please let your BRG agent know that they have to search for "Niagara Falls/Buffalo Area" as the HOTEL NAME. City should be Niagara Falls, New York.

Note that this is in (the relatively boring) side of Niagara Falls, in New York. It's not on the Canadian, touristy side.

Rate Glitch: Ramada Inn - Warsaw, Indiana

This is not a Best Rate Guarantee claim opportunity, so don't get your hopes up. This is a rate glitch, meaning you can get a decently priced room at this hotel, and cross your fingers that they will honor it.

Will they honor it? I have no idea. They sometimes do and they sometimes don't. I have experienced three of these rate glitches in my life:

Super 8 Poughkeepsie (they cancelled all reservations)
Amerihost New Orleans (they honored the rate for a lower room type after a threat of legal action)
Howard Johnson Guangzhou (remains to be seen)

Reader Janis sends us the details:

"It seems to be available only on Saturdays (I checked a few in July and August).
The room type is Non Smoking Room With 1 King Bed/ High Speed Wireless/Sofabed/Desk/ Refrigerator/Coffee Maker/Hairdryer. The rate is only $10.40!! Total with tax is $11.65, which isn't much more than you'd pay tax on for a BRG room (if/when they charge you). 2 people must be booked into the room (doesn't work for single occupancy)"

Days Hotel and Conference Center Toronto Downtown - Toronto, Ontario

Here's another I found on Reservetravel. It's a bed and breakfast rate that's cheaper than the WR non-breakfast rate. Should be good for those needing a short getaway with the family. Could also make a good basecamp for heading to Niagara Falls, a short 90 minutes away.

Update 6/26/08: This BRG has been rejected due to it being a "breakfast rate". I've never heard of a BRG being denied because it included breakfast for a lowerrate. It just goes to show how unpredictable these BRGs are, and how the BRG claim staff will stop at nothing to try to find reasons why your claims should not be approved. Sorry to disappoint, but this one's dead. If you do get denied, try your luck at contacting a supervisor and talking logic - it very well may be approved (they're much more lenient than the claim staff and are willing to hear you out).

Here's one I just found on Kayak. At first, I thought this wouldn't work, since Kayak reports the cheaper site as Orbitz and Cheaptickets. Sometimes, these sites report rates in CAD, but this time, unfortunately, the quoted in USD. So, I looked at a couple sites that Kayak doesn't integrate with - Expedia and Travelocity. Expedia didn't have it, but Travelocity did. Hurry, as this may disappear at any time (Travelocity is probably the least stable site for rates out of them all).

Howard Johnson Downtown - Spokane, Washington

Here's one that has been alive and well on Expedia at a lower rate for the past year (at least!), and listed here multiple times on the blog. They just don't care to follow Best Available Rate protocol, and that's good for people like us who like our rooms for free. I've stayed here no less than 20-30 times, and never had any problems. This hotel won Property of the Year in 2000, and the breakfast includes biscuits and gravy, waffles, and fruit salad. It's a decent location too, right on Division and just a few blocks from I-90 (don't worry, noise isn't an issue).

Note that this is sometimes listed as Howard Johnson Downtown/Airport. That's a misnomer. This hotel is around 7 miles east of the airport, so it would be pushing it to say it's an airport property. They do have a shuttle, though, I believe.

Wingate's are great, and completely covered under the Wyndham Rewards BRG (you can book refundable rates and still get a free room). I just found this one about 5 minutes ago on Kayak. It's located south of downtown Denver in the Tech Center area near Englewood. Not a terrible location, with tons of malls and restaurants nearby. Easy access to downtown via I-25.

Days Inn Mission Bay/Sea World - San Diego, California

I posted this one a couple of days ago, but it deserves mentioning again, as its lifespan appears to be winding down. This one seems to be available only within the next little while on Expedia. Once you get into July, it begins to become unstable. I've stayed here before with no complaints, and oddly enough I earned WyndhamRewards points on the rack rate. No taxes were levied. Perfect BRG experience.
