Room Details: This is a strange hotel - Expedia offers double options, whereas WR does not. The Standard King seems to be the only option in common. But, it's a smoking room.

Special Comments: They may take issue with the fact that Expedia mentions a balcony, but Expedia also mentions that this is the standard room type. In any case, speak to a supervisor if they ever deny you a cheaper room with better standard amenities. No promises here, but I'm fairly optomistic that they'll see logic here.

"How to Make a Screenshot" now updated to reflect the current situation

I've left the "How to make a screenshot" lesson up and updated it to reflect the current situation, in case anyone needs it for Red Lion claims, or (possibly) for Wyndham Hotels and Resorts claims. I'm not sure how the Wyndham Resorts staff is handling the screenshot situation, since they're an entirely different staff. I doubt they will accept it, but hey, here's to hoping.

Also, I have no word yet on whether a fax of the lower rate would suffice, or whatever other means of proving that a lower rate that may would be possible. Wyndham's quite mum towards our emails, so I'd be surprised if we ever hear from them.

Here's a rare Wisconsin BRG - we usually only see BRGs in the Milwaukee/Madison/Janesville areas, but it looks like there are a few this week in the northern part of the state. Here's a BRG worth trying out, though I can't say for certain if it would be approved or not. It's located in the Northern Iowa town of Mason City, just a stone's throw off of Interstate 35 between Des Moines and Minneapolis. It's near the Buddy Holly crash site, as well as the Frank Lloyd Wright Museum and the North Iowa Fairgrounds. The lower competing rates are easily visible by searching Kayak.

I had the misfortune of staying here a couple of years ago. The proprietor set incense to burn down every corridor, and on the lobby desk. It smelled horrible! Funny, because this hotel is supposedly a "smoke free property!" Hopefully, they've cleaned up their act. The rooms, as I recall, were dingy and just above acceptable. Lima, Ohio - Wingate by Wyndham Lima

This past week, one of our readers contacted us to let us know that Wyndham is supposedly allowing nonrefundable to refundable comparisons on BRGs. This would have been blasphemy in the past, as the Wyndham claims staff were vehemently opposed to such ideas. But, this reader assures us that Wyndham is now looking at the straightforward - that is, who has the best available rate, regardless of the cancellation policy. If that is true, let the bells of heaven ring. Feel free to try this out, and if it's true, you'll be approved. If not, and his case was a fluke, then you won't be. In any case, comment on this post to LET US KNOW, as neither of the blog authors have Lima, Ohio in their travel plans in the near future.

Needless to say, though, we're less than optomistic about this one, and not yet convinced that this is even possible.

Guelph, Ontario - Days Inn Guelph

Here's a great hotel for those travelling to or from Toronto. The Days Inn Guelph is located just under an hour from downtown Toronto, just off of the 401 and just 25 minutes east of the Kitchener-Waterloo metropolitan area. While this one would be better suited to those travelling between Detroit and Toronto, it's not terribly far off the QEW for those coming from Buffalo and Niagara Falls. Easily visible by searching Kayak.

Edmonton, Alberta - Days Inn Downtown Edmonton

I've stayed at this Days Inn property a few times in my life, and each time I've found it to be a decently comfortable option for exploring the city. It's not right in the center of the downtown core, but right on the edge, and an easy walk to the center. It's right next to Jasper Avenue, where frequent buses depart for the West Edmonton Mall (around 20-30 minutes away). Definitely grab this one while you can, the hotel was recently renovated and the hotel staff know all about the BRG program and don't mind honoring it in the least. The free parking is also a plus.

Laughlin/Las Vegas - As Low as $1.50 PER NIGHT on Expedia!

With hotel prices like these, it's no wonder that the world is in an economic recession. Expedia is showing multiple Laughlin, Nevada properties as low as $9 per night in November and December, and $12 per night through the spring!

Combine these rates with coupon code "FAN50" for some unbelievable savings. FAN50 is a public coupon code that knocks $50 off any booking of three nights or more, as long as the total room rate is over $50.

Thus, 3 x $9 = $27, won't work with this coupon. But wait!

The Edgewater is offering its regular rooms for $9, and its Riverview rooms for $17.

3 x $17 = $51, plus meagre taxes, minus coupon, results in a total price of $4.45.

That's right - $4.45 including all taxes and fees for a THREE night casino stay in Laughlin. Just under a buck and a half per night!

Be creative and play around with these room combinations and you'll find many deals.

Vegas is offering some great deals too. Binion's Gaming Hall (on the Fremont Street Experience) is offering rooms for a mere $18. Three nights in this price, including taxes, using the coupon code, results in a total price tag of $8.66! Only $2.88 per night!

The best on-Strip deal I found was for the Circus Circus - just $19.54 total for 3 nights ($6.51 per night!).

With prices like these, you have absolutely no reason not to head to Vegas or Laughlin (or both!) immediately. These rooms are almost free, and free travel is what we're all about here at the blog.

Conrad, Montana - Super 8 Conrad

Anyone travelling north to the Calgary area for skiing may find this one useful to break up that long, boring drive across the middle of nowhere. This property is located in the town of Conrad, Montana, about one hour's drive south of the Canadian border on Interstate 15, and just 45 miles north of Great Falls. You're also just about an hour east of beautiful, beautiful Glacier National Park, and around three hours south of Banff and Lake Louise. BRGs are rare in this area, so we're pretty excited to find this. Easily visible by searching Kayak.

I noticed this Baymont Inn, located on Northern Michigan's Great Lakes, to be highly rated on Tripadvisor. You can get it for scattered dates during the summer months. (I doubt you'd want to be there during winter anyways!) It's easily accessible from Interstate 75.

I've been using it for Las Vegas stays, and have priced rooms out at around $5 per night. Bangkok, Reno, and other places can be had for similarly low prices. Just look for regular rates at around $20, and then apply the coupon - the only thing you'll pay is taxes.

Here's a BRG opportunity located in the beautiful city of Edmonton, Alberta, home to the World-famous West Edmonton Mall (the world's largest mall until 2004, and currently the largest in North America). The mall is only 5 minutes from this property, which offers a Smitty's Restaurant on-site (basically Canada's version of Denny's), as well as an indoor pool with waterslide and hot tubs. While all that may sound nice, be sure to check out the Tripadvisor reviews, which are unequivocally negative, before considering a stay here.

Dickinson, North Dakota - Days Hotel Dickinson

Well, every state has its day, and today, it's North Dakota. This is the first ever BRG located in the northernmost prairie state, which is quite exciting to us BRG geeks! Dickinson is located along Interstate 94 in the western part of the state, near the beautiful badlands of Theodore Roosevelt National Park (highly recommended - I loved my 2005 hiking trip out there), midway between the Montana State Line and the capital of Bismarck. It's quite a remote area, by almost all definitions - as the hotel description states, "this is the only full service hotel and conference center within 100 miles". This BRG is easily visible by searching Kayak.

Here would be a great opportunity for anyone wanting to visit New York City for the New Year's holiday! ... at least 2 nights are available! This Howard Johnson Inn is just 7 miles away from NYC via the Lincoln Tunnel! Newark International Airport is about 12 miles away.

This BRG opportunity was contributed by reader John earlier this morning. My sister recently stayed at this property, and she said it was clearly a case of "good enough for free", and wasn't in the best of neighborhoods. Reviews on Tripadvisor are unequivocally negative, with titles such as "Yuck!" and "Horrible!" and "This hotel is completely disgusting!".
