Take the casino town of Primm, on the California/Nevada border - along I-15, but still pretty much in the middle of nowhere. They obviously need to fill rooms. Buffalo Bill's Casino, a decent midrange property, is calling for guests with rates as low as $5.00 per night on Weekdays for the next few months!
This is the perfect time for you Los Angeles readers to head north to Vegas (which is just 30 minutes from this property), and stay in Primm along the way. At prices like these, you can't go wrong.

While you're there, make sure to take a ride on the "Desperado" roller coaster (if you have no heart condition!) The room is actually a few dollars cheaper than the coaster!
