FYI: The Mystery of "Mary Job", solved.

After hearing many conspiracy theories and unfounded rumors, we've now established that Mary Job does indeed exist, and all paranoia/suspense/gossip can be put to rest. A reader explains:

"A google search of Mary Job Wyndham reveals this picture and bio of a real Mary Job.

Based in Aberdeen, SD, Mary Job oversees the Wyndham Hotel Group Customer Service and Group Sales Department.

I've spent the entire day preparing and packing for my departure overseas in the morning, so I'll admit, my post was written in haste, after a slew of emails regarding the "Mary Job" mystery caught my attention. I probably should have researched this further before playing in to all the hype/speculation! I'm humbled/embarrassed by the fact that the answer to this "mystery" was a mere Google search away.

Why she is responding to claims remains to be seen. It may be a step in the right direction - with upper management reviewing claims, they may be realizing that there was some fudging going on from some of the claims agents, and trying to do things the "right way". One thing cannot be disputed - it is strange for a high-ranking employee in the department to be replying to claims en masse.

Thoughts?

Rancho Cordova, California (Sacramento Area) - Knights Inn Rancho Cordova

This hotel property is an enigma to me! I'm not able to locate any Tripadvisor review on it and the Knights Inn website offers little info on this place! Based on the photo, I wouldn't expect 5-star amenities, that's for sure! (no offense to the management) The only thing certain is that this motel is in the Greater Sacramento area and they offer a continental breakfast (better find a McDonalds!). I also find it hard to believe that they recently renovated as they state. And don't expect to find any room photos, just the pool ... Check it out!

Still Available: Calgary, Alberta - Super 8 Shawnessy

This suburban Calgary hotel is located at the south end of the city off of Macleod Trail in Shawnessy. Is there anything to do down at this end of the city besides shop? No. But it makes a good location for anyone coming north from the USA to base themselves before heading further into the city. This hotel is roughly a 25 minutes drive to downtown at the very southern edge of the city. The US Border is two hours south of here.

One good feature about this property is that it is located right on the LRT line near Shawnessy station - it's around a 30 minute ride into downtown using it, for $2.50.

Only handicap rooms can be BRG-ed, so if you claim this, be sure to call the hotel and request them to change you to a normal room, to free the handicap rooms up for those who need them!

Traverse City, Michigan - Howard Johnson Of Traverse City

This Michigan property is located on the northwest coast of the lower peninsula, around 150 miles north of Grand Rapids. Traverse City is home to the National Cherry Festival, which runs from July 4-11 this year. Sadly, there isn't any availability for a free night at this hotel during that time, but there is good availability at least in the near future. Fellow blogger Frugal Travel Guy hails from this town, and he tells me its quite a nice place to visit.

Union, New Jersey (NYC area) - Travelodge Newark Airport

Here's an "airport hotel" (actually 9 miles away) that is just 30 minutes to Manhattan. I know this property well, having stayed here in the past. The manager DOES NOT like the BRG. He tried to negotiate "taxes" on the spot, telling me that $25.00 is "flat tax for free stay" according to "New Jersey Hotel Owners Law". After a bit of a run around, I eventually talked him/scared him out of collecting it. But, beware of being haggled here. The hotel itself is somewhat dingy, but comfortable enough. I wasn't sad to leave, though.

Alert: Wyndham Hotels claim form not functioning

We've recieved several letters notifying us that Wyndham's (not Wyndham Rewards) claim form is bouncing back all submissions as "undeliverable" due to the email address not existing (the claim agent email address, that is).

If this happens to you, you will need to call Wyndham customer care directly at 605-229-8990 and wait to speak with a claims agent. They will direct you where to send your claim form manually. For some reason, their email systems are wonky right now.

Again, please call 605-229-8990 for all of your Wyndham claims until the form is fixed.
