I actually submitted a BRG claim recently (unsuccesfully, due to what I'm about to discuss). It seems one of the biggest catches with the IHG BRG is you have to book the lowest available rate on their search page -- and it seems like most (or all?) of their hotels have a (non-refundable) advance purchase rate. Naturally, this is a bad idea if you're not totally sure about your travel dates, and if you perhaps wouldn't otherwise have chosen to stay at that property. Given that this Florida hotel also has an advance purchase rate, I anticipate the same problem here.

That's the big question I'm waiting to find out. As you said, in most cases their lowest rate is the non-refundable one. What I want to know is, will anyone have success when booking the "Best Flexible Rate" which is refundable? If the answer seems to be no, then this BRG won't have a wide appeal such as Wyndham's guarantee had. The Expedia BPG will still be superior, in my view.

Time will tell on this.

I just did a price match for a florida hotel from IHG. If you book the refundable rate and then call in to price match the will check everything and tell you if you are approved or not. Then they will tell you it needs to be the non-refundable rate to be approved so I so change it quick with them on the phone and you will be approved. That is what I did and had no problems.

That's a good technique that I've heard some people are doing. This would be mean that you'd definitely want to phone in your claim rather than using the online claim form.

By the way, many have reported finding much lower rates for IHG hotels on - just a heads up!

Just thought I'd add:

In the very near future, we plan to feature IHG BRGs on the blog more frequently (in addition to the Expedia BRGs). That's the current plan. Right now, we're focusing more on learning tips such as Dustin's and gathering feedback from readers. As we hear more of your IHG claim experiences, we'll find out the best ways of getting approved. There's been a lot of conflicting information out there regarding this BRG, as to be expected since it's brand new.
