Has Choice Just Axed it's Free Night Guarantee?

It looks like the party could be over! This morning, I'm seeing this on the Choice Hotels website:

"If you find a lower published rate for the same hotel and accommodations for the same dates at any other qualified online source, we will match that rate and give you an additional 10 percent off for that stay".

See it here.

Is their new BRG dead .. already?!!

I have yet to check my previously-earned free night stays for their status, but I hope all is unchanged. What are you folks seeing? I'm really wishing I would've acquired some more free rooms before this morning!

looks like they are back to 10 percent off instead of 1 night free. however, i was able to take advantage of the brg with 1 night free...

my reservation still shows $ 0.00. it looks like they keep the old brg for people who have claimed a free night while the deal was on...

Choice realized they couldn't do a free night BRG like IHG. Reason being, IHG hides behind advance purchase rates making a free night very risky to try and get. Choice didn't realize people could avoid advance purchase rates because theirs required membership.

The only reason IHG does so well with their BRG is they have nearly every hotel list cheaper advance purchase rates to make sure you book a locked in rate regardless if your claim is approved.

i am not able to look up my reservations online any more. i hope they will still honor the free night....

They must honor it.

Not to worry, I had the same situation the other day where I couldn't access my reservation. Later I was able too. I just checked mine just now and I'm still seeing the $0 rate.

Just bring your paperwork printout and confirmation letter to the hotel. In case I get resistance from the hotel, I'll be calling Choice customer service right then and there to deal with them! However, I anticipate no problems.

Geez! That was pulled fast. Too bad I was busy at work last week.

Yeah, it's as if it was some sort of holiday promotion that was never intended to be permanent. I guess we'll never know what they were thinking.

It was a very nice catch, even if just a limited time offer. Thank you for the info, as always! I got two rooms while it was up.

I've read from various sources on the net (though it's completely unconfirmed)that Choice's newer "free night" Guarantee may have been released prematurely and was actually intended for a later date. During the second half of December, both the older (10% off) and the newer (free night) BRGs were being displayed on the Choice website at the same time over the course of a few weeks. On some days, links would take you to the 10% Guarantee, while other links would take you to the free night Guarantee. Then, around Christmas, only the free night deal was seen. This lasted about 4-5 days.

It was obviously Choice's intention to upgrade their BRG at some point. So either one of these two scenarios must have happened: Choice backed off of the free night deal because of the unexpected huge response (much like Wyndham did), or the "free night" release was early and may still return at a later date. In any case, we all need to keep an eye on their website periodically to look (and hope for) it's possible reinstatement!

I find it hard to believe that Choice would have been clueless about the large number of claims they would've received!

Completely missed out on this while on vacation. Hope you're right, David. Wyndham may have backed off, but at least they offered their BRG for long period of time and struck a fair balance on T&C. (I'm not going to repeat my gripes about IHG.)

I can buy the Choice BRG launching prematurely. It sounds as if the terms hadn't been fully tweaked (i.e. no limit to the number of free nights booked, etc). A 10% difference isn't competitive, so here's hoping.
