The Carolina Inn, located in the heart of Downtown Chapel Hill, is a Four Diamond hotel on the National Register of Historic Places. This hotel is less than 30 minutes from the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, and is convenient to Research Triangle Park, many various high-profile corporations, Duke University, and North Carolina State University. Oh, and by the way, this hotel is said to be haunted!

The Story:
The ghost is believed to be that of Dr. William Jacocks, who lived at the Inn for nearly 20 years.

The Haunting:
Guests who stay in some of the second-floor rooms that were once the home of Dr. Jacocks often find themselves locked out. (the Inn was renovated in 1990 and Dr. Jacocks' living quarters became part of several rooms) This ghost likes to play tricks on guests, and enjoys making it difficult for them to gain entry into their rooms. Apparently one room's door had to be removed from its hinges because it wouldn't budge. Today, some electronic door locks will not work properly. Is it due to Dr. Jacocks and his playful ways? Could be! Paranormal researchers have collected video and audio of ghostly happenings in this hotel, including piano notes, softly spoken words, and an orb-like object floating in the air.

The Top Dirtiest Hotels In America

I thought I'd stayed at some real dives in my time, but after reading just some of these reviews, I don't think I had it so bad after all! Here are a handful of Tripadvisor's "Dirtiest Hotels of 2009". This list has been out for awhile and is merely a sampling (so as not to disgust you too much!) It's sure to make you feel better about some of your own hotel misadventures. Starting off the list is one of our former Wynham BRGs (look familiar?) I used to post this hotel back in the day thinking it was a great find, being a rare New York BRG. I always wondered why it didn't appear popular ... now I know why!
